FREEDOM ABROAD PROJECT

“I Have Sworn upon the alter of God eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man”
Thomas Jefferson, Author of the Declaration of Independence.

THE FOLLOWING IS A MESSAGE FROM THE FREEDOM ABROAD PROJECT.
What is America?
AMERICA is more than just a country defined by its borders. It is a nation with a profound purpose.
At its founding in 1776, America was intentionally created to be an experiment. That experiment being to determine whether or not a society of free men, all living under the same laws, would be capable of governing their own lives. They wanted to know whether free individuals would pursue their own dreams effectively and peacefully, or poorly and with violence.
America's founders knew that if the society they were creating (the first of its kind) could not survive or sustain itself, that mankind would be forever doomed to a future much like the past; with people forced to live under governing systems based on social hierarchy and privilege, forever subjected to injustice and violence at the hands off the powerful elite.
Our founders knew all too well that this had been the fate of most societies throughout history.
The American experiment is now 225 years old and has experienced many successes and disappointments. It is not a perfect state. It is, however the most successful and just state ever created by the mind of man. People from every corner of the globe have risked everything to immigrate to America in search of the freedom and justice afforded to its people.
What the people of America want most is what people everywhere want; to be free from violence and to be left alone to live their lives as they see fit. Like you, they too wish to raise their children in a world filled with justice and benevolence towards their fellow man. The people of America have established their institutions with these ends as their stated goals and, through the democratic process, continually put forth great efforts towards improving them. Americans take great pride in these shared beliefs and hold them up as their greatest achievement. In fact, it is these shared beliefs in individual freedom that best define what an American truly is, and more than anything else, it is what binds us together as a nation.
The Freedom Abroad Project was created by American citizens for the purpose of informing people of other nations about America, in particular its history and shared values. We believe that a better understanding between different peoples promotes peace and improves all people’s lives.
