FREEDOM ABROAD PROJECT

“I Have Sworn upon the alter of God eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man”
Thomas Jefferson, Author of the Declaration of Independence.

THE FOLLOWING IS A MESSAGE FROM THE FREEDOM ABROAD PROJECT.
What is America's view towards religion?
The United States of America was established with laws based on a fundamental belief that people are inherently good, not evil.
At its founding in 1776 America was intentionally created to be an experiment. That experiment being to determine whether or not a society of free men, encompassing many religious faiths, would be capable of governing their own lives. They wanted to know whether free individuals of different faiths would pursue their own dreams effectively and peacefully, or poorly and with violence.
America was, and still is, the best place for such an experiment to be conducted. This is due to the unique fact that America’s society includes every single religious culture in the world.
And the answer to the American test has been a resounding yes for all cultures. America's founder's optimism about the basic nature of men being good has mostly been affirmed. In fact, people from every corner of the globe have risked everything to immigrate to America in search of the freedom and justice afforded to its people.
Every conceivable religion and culture is tolerated and permitted to flourish in America, and flourish they do. The Muslim community in particular has enjoyed great success in America. There are 17 million Muslims living in America right now with 1209 mosques for them to worship in.
Although we Americans live by laws based on our sheared values derived from our religious beliefs, we do not permit the churches to run our government. We call this “The Separation of Church and State”.
America's founders intentionally decided to keep these two powerful entities separate. They did this without any disrespect to any religion. In fact, America's founding fathers were men of deep religious faith. They simple knew from history that when church and government are joined as one, the inevitable result has always been the corruption of both government and church.
History has also shown that the greatest violence between differing cultures occurred when one religious group took control of their government to do battle with other church run governments. This has happened over and over throughout history. These were times of great suffering, death, and destruction and advanced the cause of no religion. Certainly this is an experience not to be wished upon the people of the world today.
The Freedom Abroad Project was created by American citizens for the purpose of informing people of other nations about America, in particular its history and shared values. We believe that a better understanding between different peoples promotes peace and improves all people’s lives.
